Andrey, known by his online followers as Slowly Joe, is all about creative shots with dark edges and dramatic features. But don’t be fooled by his style -- he’s one of the most sympathetic, kind, and cheerful people you’ll meet.
Where is home for you and what do you love about it?
I live in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine and I love every street in this city! But regardless of how amazing my city might be, my home is ultimately wherever my friends and family are -- they shape my lifestyle the most.
What's the nightlife like in Kiev?
There’s a very rich nightlife in Kiev, with a lot of places that are great for wandering after dark. One of my favorite things to do is walk with some friends through the city center. It’s a very beautiful place at night.
What are you doing with your life?
Right now, I work as a barista. I spend most of my weekdays at the coffeeshop, but weekends are always reserved for taking pictures for my Instagram and meeting up with friends.
What are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of my photographs and how popular they’ve become with people. Creating images is very important to me, and connecting with people that enjoy them makes me incredibly happy and proud of my hard work.
Where do you find inspiration for your Instagram shots?
I find inspiration in all sorts of things! It can be as simple as music or clothes, or sometimes the people that I meet inspire my work with their attitude or actions. New friends and the work of other people are huge inspirations for me, too. And the weather! I love drawing inspiration from the environment around me.
Where would you most like to visit in the world?
I’m dying to visit London and Tokyo - they’re my dream cities, for sure!
Finish this sentence: people would be surprised to learn that...
My English is very bad so I use my friend as translator. He does a great job!
What's your favorite song right now?
I’ve been really digging 9 Crimes by Damien Rice. It’s been floating through my head all day.
What else should people know about you?
I never would’ve thought that I could work in the field of photography and also make coffee for people. Like, really didn’t see it coming at all. But you never know what life has prepared for you, and that’s what makes living on this planet insanely cool.
