From actress to globetrotter, this fashionista can teach you a thing or two about a “styled destination.” In our exclusive interview, Tina Prokas discusses daily life in NYC, her urban/contemporary wardrobe, and the importance of body love.
WHERE IS HOME FOR YOU?
Home for me is Johannesburg South Africa, although I am currently based in New York City. I consider NYC my second home.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR CURRENT CITY?
There are so many things I love about living in New York, but if I had to pick one thing it would be the fact that there are so many creative people in one city. On a typical day, I am walking in Soho and see so many influencers and photographers out shooting cool content or I get on the train and I see actors memorizing lines for their next big audition. Being surrounded by like minded and creative people is truly something I love about this city. It has enabled me to find myself and allowed me to just be myself.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I don't think I have one particular style that I stick to. My style definitely reflects my personality and often my mood for that day. I believe that you should own your personality and the kind of mood you are experiencing that day; the outfit will take care of itself.
WHICH SEASON IS YOUR FAVORITE? HOW DO YOU STYLE FOR IT?
I would definitely say Fall is my favorite season to style – you get the opportunity to be so versatile with your outfits. My favorite colors palette for fall is nudes, browns and some burgundy. My favorite go-to pieces for fall is a camel color coat for those colder days.
WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT IN THE WORLD?
Maldives and Cuba are definitely next up on my list, I am dying to go to both, they look so beautiful and I love learning about new cultures.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?
The best advice I ever received was, "You do you because no one can do you, like you do you." This is something I do my best to live by. I sometimes get really frustrated and compare my path to others, but then I take a step back and remember what my parents always said to me growing up "if you work hard and stay true to yourself, you are on the right path."
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE?
My goals for the future is to launch a youtube channel, create my own clothing label and hopefully to inspire other women to be confident and happy in their own skin.
